Prime Minister’s Ex-Chief Of Staff Glenn Micallef To Be Nominated For EU Commissioner Post

Glenn Micallef is set to be nominated as Malta’s next European Commissioner, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced yesterday.

In an interview during a Labour Party event, Abela explained his decision not to nominate any current ministers to avoid disrupting their ongoing work.

Initially, Abela had considered former Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne for the position. However, a recent court ruling that requires Fearne to stand trial for alleged fraud related to a hospital scandal prompted a change in plans.

Micallef resigned from his role as the Prime Minister’s chief of staff exactly a month ago where he thanked Abela for the role he entrusted him.

“I appreciated every moment in this position which gave me the privilege and honour to work for Malta, the government and for you as prime minister,” Micallef had written when announcing his resignation.

Do you think Glenn Micallef would be suitable for this role?
