‘Rest In Peace, Tom’: Tributes Flood In For Owner Of Beloved Valletta Jazz Hub BABEL Bistro
Tributes are flooding in for the owner of Valletta’s beloved BABEL Bistro, Tomek Piotrowski, who recently passed away.
Friends, loved ones, and even local businesses are remembering the best of Tomek, a man who brought a lot of jazz and a sense of community to the streets of Valletta.
This comes after a few days back, BABEL’s Facebook announced that it is going through a difficult time and that the future of BABEL is uncertain.
“I feel physically sick! Just heard of the passing of Tomek, owner of BABEL Bistro in Valletta. The kindest guy who injected so much love, laughter, jazz, and soul into Valletta and the community,” What’s Cooking, Malta? wrote on Facebook.
“My deepest most sincere condolences to his family and everyone else who knew him. I was with him literally three weeks or so ago! I can’t wrap my head around it!”
“I don’t frequent bars, very rarely do so, he made it a joy and always accommodated me perfectly when randomly popping in as he knows I hate crowds and late nights but the deep conversations and jazz made it worth it,” it continued.
Local craft beer producer Stretta also remembered Tomek, saying that “he was not just a business associate, but a true friend and big believer of Stretta”.
“We are devastated to hear of the passing of our dear friend, Tom, the owner of BABEL Bistro in Valletta,” Stretta wrote on Facebook
“Tom’s personality, charisma, and attention to detail always created the perfect atmosphere where everyone enjoyed themselves. We are grateful for the memories we shared with Tom and the joy he brought to our lives and the lives of countless others.”
“At this difficult time, we want to express our deepest condolences to Tom’s family, loved ones, and the community at BABEL Bistro. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time,” it said.
“At Stretta all our clients are also personal relationships. Tom’s loss is a personal one for us at Stretta, and we will always remember him fondly. Rest in peace, Tom. You’re a legend!”
“Rest in peace Tomek, I’ll always remember you,” Stretta owner John Borg Barthet wrote.
“I still can’t believe you’re not here, Tomek. You were family. My heart breaks,” founder of People and Skin Joanna Delia wrote.
“We will keep BABEL Bistro and the community of jazz lovers you started alive!” she promised.
