Rotting Chicken Fumes Force Civil Protection Team Into Fgura Takeaway

Members of the Civil Protection Department (CPD) were called to a Fgura takeaway earlier today to deal with an overpowering stench of rotten chicken.

Neighbours complained about the smell emanating from the long-abandoned Tucson Fried Chicken outlet, prompting a court application for urgent intervention according to Times of Malta.

A Hazmat team of eight CPD officers arrived at the site around 8am and spent over two and a half hours clearing decomposing food, including chicken, fried items, and other perishable waste. The exact quantity of waste removed has not been disclosed.

The property belongs to Kurt Scicluna, a Żejtun resident who was previously arraigned in November 2024 after authorities discovered €20 million worth of cocaine linked to him at the Malta Freeport. Following his arrest, the Fgura shop was closed, leaving the food to rot.

After more than a year of inaction, the stench was finally addressed this week due to court intervention.
