Siggiewi Farmer Furious Upon Finding Rubble Illegally Dumped In His Private Field
A Siggiewi farmer was shocked to find his field playing host to the illegally dumped construction rubble that an unidentified individual chose to dump there without following the proper disposal of such material to avoid dumping costs and policies.
“People haven’t got respect as soon as they see an open space where they can dispose of their rubbish, they just chuck it away as it’s not their problem anymore, leaving you to deal with this unwillingly” (“Nies jiġu jaqgħu u jqumu minnha, jaraw li għandek għalqa u jitfaw li jiġi bl-addoċċ, imbagħad aħna irridu nikkumbattu tiġi u issib kull m’hawn imbarazz”), the incensed farmer told Lovin Malta.
This has been ongoing for quite some time now, with the farmers saying that his and other farmers’ fields are being used by possibly unknown contractors for illegal dumping and littering.
Moreover, the litter can destroy their crops, wasting months and years of hard work.
The furious framer told Lovin Malta that is too much for him to take on, with the cost of the service of removal having to be paid by him – even though he is the victim.
And there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again – especially since farmers have previously found a multitude of appliances and other unwanted objects disposed of in their fields.
The victim also pointed out that the Siggiewi Local Council boasts a well-rounded bulky collection service.
If people opt to dispose of their unwanted items rather than use the collection service, it’s clearly a matter of sheer ignorance as the disposal has to be done again by the field owner.
The debris, orange and white in colour, are particular in their look, with the farmer saying that they originally formed part of an arc.
He urged anyone who recognised the leftover bricks to contact the police.
