A six-year-old boy died after having been found unconscious in a swimming pool by police on Sunday evening.

The police were notified around 5.30pm that their assistance was needed to find a boy that went missing in Triq San Ġwann, Naxxar. When the police arrived on site, their initial investigations resulted that the six-year-old boy wandered around and disappeared, while with some relatives in fields they own.

After the police searched the area, the boy was not found. The police made use of a drone and the boy was spotted unconscious in the swimming pool of another residence.

The police rushed to give first aid, with a medical team assisting shortly afterwards. The boy was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, but unfortunately, he lost his life.

While the police continue their investigation, Magistrate Joe Mifsud was notified of the case and appointed an inquiry.
