Sliema Councillor Opposes Proposed Block Of Apartments On Football Grounds Of Youth Centre
Sliema Councillor Zack Zammit is opposing plans to build a five-storey block of apartments on the football grounds of the Villa Schinas youth centre.
“To remove crucial opportunities for the development of children and young people to prioritize profit over well-being is unacceptable,” the PN councillor wrote on Facebook.
The plans (PA/06948/24), submitted by Ruben Vassallo of Vassallo Group Realty, are proposing the construction of a five-storey apartment block plus a penthouse on the existing football grounds. It further wants to divide the existing social club into two separate ones with different entrances. Within the Villa, the plans want to construct two toilets and a lift, as well as other ”minor internal alterations”.
Zammit is vehemently opposed to this proposal, urging for residents to submit rejections to [email protected].
“The potential closure of an active youth center to make room for more apartments is very disappointing.”
“As a local councilor responsible for the youth in our locality, it’s my duty to help and protect the few remaining youth centers in Sliema. This center provides a safe space for children to engage in sports, fostering discipline and their sense of community.”
