‘A Disaster Waiting To Happen’: Street Light Pole In Mtarfa Bypass Nearing Collapse

A street light pole that seems to be split in half is posing a great danger to drivers and pedestrians alike in Mtarfa.

Photos sent to Lovin Malta by a worried driver show how the pole, situated in the Mtarfa bypass, seems to be hanging by the internal wires.

“Three weeks ago, I reported a broken light pole to the Mtarfa Local Council. They had told me they have already filed a complaint to Enemalta,” the concerned driver told Lovin Malta.

“After chasing them for days and weeks, it has remained in the same state for three weeks now,” he explained.

“Why god forbid, do we need to have a major accident to actually fix it, instead of tackling the issue before a disaster happens?” he questioned.

Lovin Malta reached out to the Mtarfa Local Council, to confirm whether a report was made to Enemalta about the broken pole.

“We passed on the first complaint to Enemalta on 11th July, and the last correspondence we have from them is on 25th July where they gave us a reference number,” a representative for the council informed Lovin Malta, adding that it is pending necessary maintenance.

The newsroom also reached out to Enemalta to inquire about the matter, who said that “Enemalta is liaising with other entities to replace the pole in the coming days”.

Do you think it should be fixed as soon as possible?
