Survey: Are You A Third-Country National Who’s Just Been Refused A Work Permit?

Last week, the government implemented a new policy that seeks to refuse all third-country nationals aiming to work in Malta in certain sectors, most notably in the cab and food courier industries.

Due to this, hundreds of new work and change of employment permits were refused by Identita Malta according the recommendation of JobsPlus. This was done in an effort to safeguard Maltese workers and target abusive employers who pay their workers below minimum wage.

However, as a result of this policy, several third-country nationals who have been working in Malta for years were refused a work permit to change their employment – this includes being transferred from one company to another under the same owner.

Lovin Malta has been contacted by several different parties affected by this policy change be it fleet companies, cab-hailing platforms, and TCN workers alike.

This has left people feeling lost and abandoned, unsure of where their next paycheque will come from and whether they’ll have to uproot their lives and move back to the home they left in search of a better life.

If you’re a third-country national who’s been affected by this policy change, we want to hear from you. The survey below is completely anonymous so don’t worry about any identity leaks, just give us as much detail as possible on your experiences.
