Swieqi Residents Kept Awake As Tourists Fight And Cause Chaos Until 2.30AM

Summer nights for Swieqi residents have been restless… to say the least.

Videos are consistently emerging of loud, disruptive and intoxicated tourists across Malta, particularly in the Sliema, Swieqi and St Julian’s localities.

The most recent complaint details what a resident described as an apartment block hosting 30 young tourists who stay up till 2.30am, fighting and creating a ruckus. Worsestill, the resident reported it to the police that allegedly said they couldn’t do anything because they did not have a car.

Former foreign minister Evarist Bartolo has been vocally critical of the government placing the interests of landlords above the well-being of citizens.

Bartolo posted a message to Facebook sent by an over-tired yesterday and frustrated resident who detailed the nightly disturbances Swieqi residents face.

“It’s currently 2.30am. The young tourists staying in an apartment block full of 30 youths are making a lot of noise. Earlier, they were even fighting among themselves. This is what they do every day. Noise, night after night,” the status reads.

“I just called the police to come over. They told me they can’t because they don’t have a car.”

This comes amid growing frustration over both the volume and behaviour of tourists on the island. Violence, vandalism, and public indecency continue to disrupt the quality of life for locals hoping to enjoy a peaceful summer in Malta.
