A townhouse in Lija, Ta’ Babakka, is believed to have been built in the precise geographical centre of Malta.

A post on Facebook drew attention to the house and its narrow road, allegedly situated at the centre of the island. Followers to the Facebook group ‘Life in Malta’ then proceeded to comment on the post, revealing their knowledge or experience with Ta’ Babakka.

One person stated that the house was where her great grandparents lived. All their children moved out except one, Karmena, also known as Babakka, who spent her whole life there. The relative of Karmena claimed there was a nearby field where ‘iz-zija Karm’ would farm, which is now built up and no longer exists.

“Not just Babakka is gone, but a style of life that is no more,” stated the relative.
