Tenishia Thornton Sets Three New National Records In Impressive Performance At Olympic Qualifiers
Young Maltese athlete Tenishia Thornton has set three new national records during her final qualification for the Olympic Games.
Thornton had a remarkable competition in the 64A category, lifting 84kg, 87kg, and 90kg in Snatch, and 104kg, 109kg, and 111kg in Clean and Jerk, setting three new national records.
In the finals, Thornton, the youngest athlete in the competition, placed fifth following athletes from North Korea and Ukraine.
The results of the 64kg category will count towards the 71kg Olympic category, which will be concluded this evening. Only the top 10 athletes in the world will advance to the Olympic finals.
Thornton also achieved commendable results in the 59kg category.
The athlete is currently eagerly awaiting the final list to be published. But, after such a successful performance, she remains optimistic about earning a place in the prestigious games.
