‘Thank You for Your Support’: Isabelle Bonnici Grateful After Valletta Counter-Protest Banner Removed
Isabelle Bonnici, Jean Paul Sofia’s mother, has expressed gratitude after the counter-protest banner which was placed partially hiding her son’s banner was removed this morning.
Jean Paul Sofia’s banner, which has been hung outside Malta’s Parliament in Valletta for months, was recently obscured by a counter-protest banner taking aim at the Nationalist Party.
“Thank you for listening and understanding, because my son’s face is now visible again as it was,” Bonnici wrote in a heartfelt message.
She commended the cooperation and quick response, noting her appreciation for the widespread support she has received throughout her journey.
Bonnici also vowed that the banner will remain until meaningful justice is served and the promised reforms in the construction sector are fully implemented.
“You are my energy and strength to keep moving forward where it is needed,” she concluded, reaffirming her commitment to advocating for change in honour of her son.
This came after she publicly criticised the placement of a counter-protest banner that partially hid her son’s banner in front of Parliament in Valletta.
In a heartfelt message, she questioned whether the banner’s positioning was intentional, suggesting an unwillingness to confront the negligence and systemic failures that led to her son’s tragic death.
“You could have moved it to the side so my son’s face wouldn’t be covered! Or is it that you can’t even bear to look at him because he reminds you of the bullies and cowboys who were allowed to do as they pleased and killed an innocent young man?” she wrote on social media.
The banner, which calls for justice for Jean Paul Sofia, has become a symbol of Bonnici’s unyielding fight for justice for her son.
