‘The Country Has A Distribution Problem’: Robert Abela On This Week’s Power Cuts

Prime Minister Robert Abela admitted that the country has enough generation to meet the demand; however, it’s the electricity distribution that is flawed.
Abela stated that Enemalta did not have enough time to do all the necessary work to amend this problem before the heat caught up to the island, despite the government’s investment of €55 million to improve the energy distribution system.
While speaking on One Radio, the Prime Minister noted that a “massive” amount of work has been done by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, Enemalta CEO Ryan Fava, and Enemalta’s workers over the last winter – these efforts will intensify in the coming months.
The several roadworks experienced throughout these past months have been addressing this issue, he explained that these were necessary but so far, there has not been enough time to solve all the problems.
“All the remaining work that is still required will be completed,” he continued.
Abela then shot down the Nationalist Party’s proposed solution for the energy sector to be privatised. He stated that this would ultimately lead to higher energy prices.
