‘The Opposite Of Justice’: Roberta Metsola ‘Nauseated’ By ‘Shocking’ Release Of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s Killer
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has expressed her shock after investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murderer was released from prison to attend a family party.
Revealed earlier today, photos emerged of convicted murderer George DeGiorgio having fun with his family at a baptism party, or as Metsola described, “living it up”.
“Last October, a contract killer was jailed for 40 years for the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Last night he was allowed out to party and celebrate with friends and family,” Metsola wrote on social media.
“It’s a story that hit a raw nerve for me. It is outrageous. Shocking. Nauseating,” she said.
“On a day when she has been vindicated yet again with her reporting about the abuse that was behind the Malta hospital scam, we are treated to photos of her killer living it up.”
“Daphne can no longer enjoy time with her sons and play with her grandchildren. She cannot speak to her husband, her sisters, or her parents. She cannot write her column. She cannot upload her blog.”
“But the man who murdered her can party and pose for photographs with impunity. That is not justice. That is the opposite,” she lamented.
Meanwhile, PN leader Bernard Grech has called for the people of Malta to “wake up” and come together to fight against this impunity.
Following his temporary release, a representative for the murderer has argued that the release was done with the correct paperwork, in accordance with all the necessary requests and authorisation from the relevant authorities.
