Transport Malta Issues 11PM Curfew For Music On Boat Parties

Commercial boat parties in Malta will now be required to turn off music by 11pm and limit volume near residential areas under new guidelines issued by Transport Malta.
The rules, published on 11th July in an updated Notice to Mariners, are the first to specifically target noise from boat parties.
They follow action by the Office of the Ombudsman, which received complaints from residents about loud music from vessels anchored near the coast. After discussions between the Ombudsman, Transport Malta, and the Malta Police Force, it was agreed that Transport Malta would be responsible for regulating and enforcing noise limits for commercial vessels.
According to the new notice, music must be switched off completely by 11pm, sound checks are banned in ports, bays, and harbours, and volume must be kept to a minimum when near homes or environmentally sensitive zones.
The rules do not specify noise limits in decibels but warn that enforcement action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
