Two Arrested After Drugs Worth €650,000 Found in Car from Sicily

A man and a woman were arrested last night after they were found in possession of several suspected drugs.
The suspects, a 27-year-old Montenegrin man and a 27-year-old Serbian woman, were in a Volkswagen driven by the man.
The two were stopped soon after arriving in Malta by catamaran from Sicily due to suspicions of trafficking and importing drugs from Italy.
After searches were carried out at the police garage, several packages containing drugs were found in false compartments in the bottom and rear of the vehicle.
In all, around 15 kilos of cannabis, three kilos of suspected cocaine and hundreds of pink pills suspected to be ecstasy were found. The drugs are suspected to have a street value of about €650,000.
Customs officials assisted the Police during this operation.
An inquiry by magistrate Joe Mifsud is ongoing and the two suspects are currently being held in custody at the Police lock-up in Floriana pending their arraignment.
