University Of Malta Showcases Innovation And Impact At Research EXPO 2025

The University of Malta organised the Research Expo 2025, which brought together a wide range of research and innovation projects that are inspiring the path toward a sustainable and knowledge-based future.
On this occasion, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research, and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, praised the extensive and interdisciplinary work being carried out by the academic and research community at the University.
During his speech, Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti emphasised the central role that research plays in building an inclusive and resilient society.
“This EXPO is a testament to the intellectual energy, scientific rigour, and creative ambition that distinguish the research community at the University of Malta.”
The Parliamentary Secretary explained how the projects showcased at the EXPO address both global and local challenges in a concrete manner, while offering sustainable and innovative solutions.
“This spirit of exploration and problem-solving aligns perfectly with Malta’s Vision 2050 – our commitment to a future built on innovation for the common good,” Azzopardi Tanti continued.

He reminded attendees that the government, in collaboration with the University of Malta, has launched and funded 10 strategic research initiatives, led by distinguished professors across various fields. These projects are aligned with Malta’s Smart Specialisation Strategy and contribute directly to the country’s economic and social development.
“We are investing in ideas, talent, and the future, and your work is at the heart of this effort. This collaboration between the Government and the University not only supports advanced research but also enhances its impact on society,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.
Finally, Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti praised the University’s ongoing commitment to doctoral education, recognising the significant increase in PhD candidates and the establishment of the Doctoral School as a crucial step in maintaining academic excellence. During the same event, the Parliamentary Secretary presented two awards for the most meritorious PhD theses for 2025.
