An 80-year-old resident of Għaxaq died yesterday evening after being hit by the coach she got off from in Triq Ħal-Far, Żurrieq.

The police were informed of the incident at 7.20pm yesterday before they arrived on the scene and discovered the tragic news. 

A preliminary investigation discovered that the elderly woman died after being hit by the same Iveco bus that she had just gotten off from. The vehicle was driven by a 52-year-old man and resident of Għaxaq who suffered no injuries from the incident.

According to a One News report from last night, the coach was coming from an event at Villa Blanche.

Members of the Civil Protection Department, as well as a medical team, attempted to help the woman, however, she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries.

Two other female passengers, aged 64 and 63, were also hit by the same vehicle and suffered injuries from the incident. They are both Tarxien residents. 

The women were taken to Mater Dei by ambulance where the 63-year-old’s injuries were confirmed as grievous, the condition of the other woman is currently pending.

A police Magistrate has opened an inquiry while police investigations are currently ongoing.
