US Retaliates In Iraq After Three American Troops Wounded In Drone Attack
The US military retaliated with air strikes in Iraq on Monday as a response to a drone attack earlier that day which wounded three American troops.
The drone attack, believed to be carried out by militants aligned with Iran, critically injured one American service member and wounded two others.
This incident is part of larger regional tensions, influenced by the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has led to U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria becoming targets. The groups in Iraq and Syria, opposing Israel’s actions in Gaza, also blame the US for the conflict.
Following President Joe Biden’s orders, the US strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of several Kataib Hezbollah militants and the destruction of their facilities.
The US military aims to hold those responsible for attacks on coalition forces accountable and reduce their capability to launch further attacks.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, the head of US Central Command, stated that these strikes are a protective measure for US forces.
