Valletta Burns Through The Ranks As Europe’s Second Hottest Capital
Valletta is the second hottest travel spot in the continent… literally!
According to datasets constructed by the Open-Meteo API program, data from August 2023 till July 2024 shows a lineup of European capitals’ mean temperature.
As illustrated by a graphic created by Paula Lago via The European Correspondent, Reykjavik, the Capital of Iceland, scored the lowest average temperature, with temperatures rarely being over 15°C.
Meanwhile, Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus, is evidently the top contender with a scorching 46°C as its highest recorded temperature this year.
Our very own Valletta is not far behind, with average temperatures ranging in the high-thirties, and not to mention the humid air making every added degree feel ten times worse. But the stats don’t lie, meaning these whopping numbers have landed us in the number two spot in Europe’s hottest capitals list.
Of course, one can obviously expect a drastic difference between snow-covered countries and humid islands, however it’s important to note the contrast from previous years.
Previous local reports have confirmed that the average temperature has gradually increased by around 1.5°C from 1978 to 2020. If this increase is to remain consistent, then we could expect an additional degree or two by the end of the century, if not sooner.
What do you think of these stats?
