Valletta Soup Kitchen Served 120,500 Meals In 2023, Feeding 27,000 People

The Soup Kitchen OFM in Valletta gave out a whopping 120,500 meals in 2023, figures released by the organisation show.

The kitchen published a report of its incredible achievements, feeding an astonishing 27,000 people in need all through donations. 

The report shows that 38% of the guests were female while 62% were male. Meanwhile, 14% were foreign and 86% were Maltese.

The main localities of the guests were Valletta, Floriana, Marsa, Qormi, Żebbuġ, Saint Paul’s Bay, Kirkop, Pieta’, Msida, Gżira, Ħamrun, Ħal-Luqa, Bormla, Birkirkara, Raħal il-Ġdid, Sliema, and Fgura.

Overall, the soup kitchen prepared and served 98,400 plates for lunch, 22,100 packed lunches for supper, and spent around €603,660.

The money that helped the dedicated team feed all of these people was collected through donations from 121 companies, 1160 individuals, and 20 schools.

The kitchen wasn’t only able to feed their guests, the staff’s generous help assisted 98 of the guests in finding employment.

Despite all of this awe-inspiring work, the soup kitchen only has two employees, one is full-time the other is part-time. Meanwhile, it enjoys the help from 72 volunteers, seven of which are board members, the rest of which are helpers.

The helpers aren’t only locals. The soup kitchen received assistance from kind souls from all over the world, including Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Domenican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The soup kitchen also has a lawyer, three nurses, three social workers, and three barber/hairdressers.

“As you can see, at the Soup Kitchen OFM Valletta, we experience a daily miracle of providence. Without the army of volunteers and the support of the donors, all this would not have been possible. Because of this, we would like to thank them and urge them to keep supporting us in our work so that we can provide our guests, a life with dignity,” the charitable organisation wrote.
