Valletta’s Cool! Malta’s Capital Makes It To National Geographic’s Most Exciting Destinations

Valletta has been recognised for its vibrant culture and rich history by earning a spot in National Geographic’s “Cool List 2024: the 30 most exciting destinations to visit.”
The capital was recognised for its UNESCO-listing and its captivating journey through time, due to its well-preserved Baroque architecture and ancient forts.
National Geographic highlighted that Director Sir Ridley Scott, renowned for cinematic masterpieces like Gladiator, chose Malta’s golden shores as the backdrop for his upcoming sequel to the 2000 blockbuster once again.
Thanks to Fort Ricasoli’s 17th-century ramparts it provides the perfect setting for recreating ancient Rome, complete with a meticulously crafted Colosseum and other iconic Roman structures.
Valletta’s skyline of bastions and cathedral domes was shaped by a multinational order of knights who ruled the island from the 16th to 18th centuries. Scenic terraces set above a glittering waterfront, where wooden townhouse balconies overhang the narrow streets and the year-round warm weather, it’s not just filmmakers who should be inspired to visit in 2024.Valletta was joined by others in the list such as Pompeii, Albanian- Alps, Miami and Victoria.
