A Maltese teacher has shared her difficult decision to quit her teaching job due to terrible working conditions in the education system.
Shanice, also known by her Instagram handle @my_life_with_pixiedust, took to social media to share this life-changing news. She is known for sharing moments from her life as a teacher, with one of the most memorable being when she let her students choose her wedding dress.
“After six beautiful years of teaching, I have decided to end my teaching career,” Shanice wrote in her video.
“It was the hardest decision of my life so far,” she continued, emotionally describing how she felt when she sent her resignation letter.

Shanice explained her love for teaching and working with her students, which had always been her dream.
However, she went on to mention that the “Maltese education system is very problematic,” which caused her to shift from being highly motivated to becoming mentally exhausted and drained from work.
She further elaborated that working conditions are “terrible,” and teachers do a lot of unseen work without being adequately rewarded or compensated for their dedication.
Shanice concluded her message by expressing her heartbreak over leaving the school and her wonderful team, as well as no longer being a part of her students’ lives.
She stressed that the educational system needs to “act on it before it’s too late” to prevent losing more hardworking teachers.
