Watch: Blanket Cloud Of Dust Rises From St Julian’s Construction Site

Article Featured Image

Footage sent to Lovin Malta shows a massive cloud of dust rising from a construction site in St Julian’s.

The suffocating dust appears to be coming from the Eden Cinemas construction site, the area where Cinema 16 used to be.

“I had to go up St Rita’s steps and come back down from Penderplace on foot to avoid the dust,” the woman told Lovin Malta. “No wonder we’re all asthmatic.”

The woman also noted that this whole ordeal is also happening at the same time that the Mediterranean Tourism Forum is taking place right across at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Speaking with St Julian’s Mayor Albert Buttigieg, he similarly noted the irony that there is a high-level tourism conference happening just across the street.

“Another example of how the untouchables do as they please,” Buttigieg told Lovin Malta,

The frustrated mayor took aim at the Tourism Minister’s supposed vision for the island, saying: “the Minister’s claim of turning Malta into a hub of excellence is just glossed over! As usual, we are left to breathe the dust!”

He also pointed out that no excavation or demolition works should be taking place between 15th June and 30th September of this year.
