Watch: Driver Startled After Pedestrian Carelessly Sprints Across Busy Marsa Bypass Bend
A close call with what could have been a fatal accident left a driver shocked after a pedestrian carelessly crossed a main road in Marsa.
Dashcam footage sent to Lovin Malta by the driver himself shows the moment he nearly ran over a pedestrian after he turned a bend in the road and found them crossing the road.
“I wasn’t expecting someone to cross the road there at night during rush hour… there are lights in the vicinity and barriers to prevent people from crossing, however somehow someone managed to perforate an opening in the barrier,” the driver told Lovin Malta.
“This would have been another accident in the same spot after a few days,” he said, referring to Malta’s first road fatality of the year, Pawlu ċ-Ċeċe, who was killed in the same road.
The driver also explained how there is a hole in the fence, which is enabling pedestrians to pass through it and cross the dangerous road.
“I installed a dashcam myself to protect myself in accidents similar to these,” he explained.
“Luckily this did end well but if it was an accident at least I will have some kind of proof of how pedestrians behave,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we always blame drivers for careless driving,” he lamented.
Over the last few months, a number of dashcam footage have been submitted to Lovin Malta, showing both the carelessness of some drivers and also pedestrians.
