Watch: ‘Drivers Know But Don’t Care’- TikToker Exposes 44 Days Of Illegal Right Turns

Tiktok account DaVOLD has been uploading videos of drivers turning right illegally as they defy a no right turn street sign.

The creator has been uploading videos for 44 days, ever since the signs were installed in Triq il-Marbat which was used as a shortcut into Paceville.

“I’ve actually just spoken to some of the drivers when I was coming home and they know about the no right turn,” said DaVOLD. Some drivers even responded saying that everyone else is doing it as they drive following the vehicles turning right.

The creator called for bollards to be put up to force the cars into going left, because otherwise, the drivers will keep on turning right since they are not physically stopped from turning right.

DaVold went on to say that something needs to be done regarding the traffic in Malta saying that there are too many cars. He finished his video saying that there needs to be drastic change in Maltese traffic as he claimed that “it wasn’t like this one or two years ago.”

“People don’t care about the rules of the road in this country and it’s a big problem, with drivers from different nationalities, it’s not just Maltese.”

Lovin Malta spoke with Swieqi’s Deputy Mayor, Jordan Galea Pace about the situation. He confirmed that the Swieqi Local Council is aware of what is happening in Triq il-Marbat and have had random spot checks by LESA and the police, resulting in the issuing of numerous fines, approximately €75 and three penalty points.

Despite these spot checks, drivers continue to break the law and Galea Pace followed up by requesting the installation of bollards that has been rejected by Transport Malta. He went on to say that the local council is now awaiting a response on their request for a camera to be installed which would provide consistent enforcement.

“We’ve identified that commercial vehicles are still being routed through Swieqi by navigation systems such as Google Maps, which have not yet been updated to reflect the new traffic arrangements. We are actively reporting this to ensure commercial vehicles are directed straight ahead, rather than being diverted through our already congested locality,” Galea Pace told Lovin Malta.
