Watch: ‘Feels Like We’re Drowning’ – Maltese Cat Fosterer Appeals For Help As New Cases Keep Coming In

Maltese cat fosterer Miriam Borg Debrincat has appealed for help as she’s struggling to keep up with all the new cases that keep coming in.

Local voluntary sanctuary Kitty Guardians for Strays has been working tirelessly to provide a future for hundreds of stray cats around the island, with over 20 strays currently in their care.

“Cases keep coming in daily, and we can’t keep up. It’s like this drowning feeling… every single minute of every day,” Miriam told Lovin Malta.

“Cats killed on the streets, cats being abandoned daily, cats being sick and in need of help, colonies in desperate need of neutering… It’s a never-ending vicious cycle of heartache, suffering, anxiety and desperation.”

“What if our operations have to cease? What will happen to all the cats in need? At the shelter, at the moment we have 16 cages all full. Not including today’s eight cats which are going to be neutered,” she said.

One of the cat’s currently in their care is Matilde, who was run over by a car. She needed an operation on her jaw and has recently started acupuncture therapy.

Another one is Lioness, who was found crying on a doorstep, with her fur full of knots and skinny to the bone. The fosterers suspect that she was abandoned by her owners.

And then there’s Bianca, who was trapped and neutered but they noticed that her breathing is abnormal. They recently found out that she is suffering from a diaphragmatic hernia, and she will be having the surgery on 21st February.

And when it comes to the cats that Miriam neutered today, she’s already forked out €300. Apart from that, they desperately need a van to facilitate operations, as she’s been working with her own car.
