Watch: ‘I Won’t Go To Hell, Cause I’m Already In It’: A Night In The Life Of A Paceville Resident
Malta’s hub for partying and clubbing has become a living nightmare for many, with residents having to deal with the unimaginable every night.
From strangers urinating, vomiting or snorting lines of coke, this is what residents see occurring on their own private doorsteps.
“I will not go to hell,” the resident told Lovin Malta with tears in her eyes, “because I already am living in hell.”
“No one has any idea of the life we live here. I dread the weekend every time it arrives, I wish it never came,” the resident said.
The resident has been living in the particular house since 2005, but has lived in Paceville since they were young.
“It was such a big difference before, you cannot even begin to compare,” they said, comparing the people they witness to animals.
“I don’t even feel safe during the day. It’s just not a safe area, I don’t consider it to be one. It’s so rare that civilised and respectful people show up here.”
The mother recounted the atrocities they’ve witnessed, from people threatening to inflict physical harm when confronted with their actions, to acts of vandalism on their own private property.
“Once we tried to stop a man that was peeing on our doorstep, his reaction was to curse at us and then proceeded to moon us.”
“There were times when I didn’t think I’d make it home – and this was even in broad daylight,” she said.
“The quality of life has really deteriorated, because you know what’s coming, every evening. We have a right to peace,” she said.
Lovin Malta also spoke with her son, who detailed the many atrocities that they’ve had to endure, having to call the police for assistance countless amounts of times.
“Once a man was knocking on the door, and when I checked what it was about, he became verbally aggressive and tried throwing a glass bottle at me,” he recounted.
“Whenever we try to confront people for their public actions, such as peeing in front of our door, the reaction is always an aggressive one.”
“We’ve even had people peeing deliberately inside our keyhole,” he said. “The road smells like a cesspit.”
Many people living on this street are scared to speak out, but they’ve all taken steps to ensure better safety for themselves, such as erecting high metal fences in front of their gates.
The residents desperately want more to be done in terms of safety, suggesting that CCTV needs to be installed so that the police can always have access to this reality, along with the formation of a special police squad.
With that being said, they expressed their gratitude for what is already being done, noting that there has been a slight increase in enforcement over the last months.
