Watch: ‘I’m Beyond That’ – Delia Refuses To Call Out ‘Hypocritical’ PN Critics Who Are Now Praising Him
Former PN leader Adrian Delia has refused to call out “hypocritical” PN critics who are now praising him after his landmark win on the Vitals-Steward hospital deal case.
Speaking with Jon Mallia on his special edition podcast last night, Delia was asked whether he has any comment regarding all the PN members who are now praising his work even though they had campaigned to remove him as PN leader a few years ago.
“One of the narratives making the rounds today is that there are a lot of people who are celebrating your work today when until just a few years ago they were working to get you out of your position as PN leader – and in this situation, hypocrisy has been pointed out – what are your thoughts on this?” Mallia asks Delia.
“I’m beyond that. Totally,” Delia said firmly.
“People can judge, and they have every right to do so. My first comments on this were that this is a win for all of Malta, its citizens, and the country – and my focus is totally there,” he said.
“So, water off a duck’s ass,” Mallia comically replies followed by a cheeky “quack quack” as Delia smiles.
Judge Francesco Depasquale yesterday ordered the annulment of the deal and the return of the three hospitals to the government, with all costs to be borne by Steward Malta.
Delia’s case, which he filed almost five years ago, calls for the scrapping of the concession that placed Vitals Global Healthcare, and later Steward Healthcare, in charge of the St Luke’s, Karin Grech and Gozo hospitals.
Depasquale warned that Vitals and Steward failed to achieve their completion milestones, including plans for design, the Barts campus, beds at Karin Grech, the renovation of the Gozo hospital, and St Luke’s beds for hospital tourism.
He said this rendered the milestones “ineffective, if not a complete farce”.
