Local comedian and singer Joe Demicoli has slammed Infrastructure Malta for closing a service road in Marsa, leading to an ambulance having to reverse in to reach residents.

Caught on video, the ordeal happened after Demicoli contacted an ambulance to assist and take him to Mater Dei Hospital after he broke his leg.

The footage, which was shared online, shows an ambulance reversing into the street from the bustling Marsa bypass.

“Thank you to the nurses at Mater Dei hospital for their dedication towards their work. The same does not go for Infrastructure Malta and ‘Il-Ministru tal-qamar għax-xogħol bażwi u bla ħsieb‘” Demicoli said, with the last part loosely translating to “Minister of the moon for shoddy and thoughtless work”.

“The entrance to the service road was closed ‘for security’, according to them, but now, in the case of an emergency, an ambulance has to reverse in. Incompetent,” he said.

The aforementioned area has long been disputed, after Infrastructure Malta decided to remove the pelican lights in the area, leading to residents having to face a massive detour to get to their houses.
