Raniero’s Adventures took to Facebook to log Monday’s dive during which he came across a large tuna head carcass.

“During our dive, we came across a large tuna head- most likely the remains of a tuna that was caught and discarded by someone,” said Raniero.

“This carcass may have attracted the shark we spotted over the weekend. Since the tuna head is still untouched, it’s likely the shark is no longer around in Sliema, as it would have eaten it by now.”

Raniero’s adventures is a page dedicated to raising awareness about Maltese surf and turf environments.

Following the shark sighting in Sliema on 9th May, Raniero and his team headed back into the water to investigate. Instead of a shark, they found the large tuna head resting on the seabed.

In the video, the diver is seen reaching out for the tuna head carcass while keeping clear of the fireworms “busuf” that were attached to it.

“We will keep a look out in the meantime so we can enjoy our seas!” said Raniero.
