Watch: Local Qrendi-Man Gets Emotional After His Car Was Towed And He Was Fined €200 While In Hospital
When Bertu, a locally-known Qrendi man with disabilities and medical problems, returned from hospital over the Santa Marija weekend, he found his car had been towed to make space for festa-related activities. He was also fined €215.
Now, his neighbours in the southern Maltese village, are wondering if the fine he paid should be returned to him out of compassion.
Bertu parked his car but was unexpectedly rushed to the hospital by ambulance and therefore unable to move it before the Santa Marija Festa.
Authorities towed his car to Żebbuġ while Bertu was in hospital without any knowledge of what was going on.
“I went to the depot and paid 215 I was already being crucified and now they’re crucifying me even more and I wish to get them back,” he told Lovin Malta.
Meanwhile, another local explained how just a few days ago, he saw Bertu crying in a Każin in Qrendi. Many people in the area believe that he should be given the money back, the resident said.
“What did they expect him to do? Even if they informed him, was he supposed to leave the hospital to move his car for them? when this man was rushed to hospital in the ambulance?”
“Where is the compassion these days,” the concerned resident asked.
“He should be given the money it’s not like it’s €10, it’s €215.”
Do you think Bertu should be given the money back?
