Watch: Main Pipe Damaged During Roadworks Leaves Surrounding Towns Waterless Till 8pm Tonight
A main water pipe has been damaged during roadworks on Tal-Barrani road this afternoon, leaving multiple towns in the area without water supply for the rest of the afternoon.
Multiple videos have been circulating on social media of drivers passing the flooded road.
Infrastructure Malta and Water Services Corporation announced that residents in Tarxien, Paola, Luqa, Santa Luċija, and the Marsa industrial area will experience a suspension of water service until 8:00 PM, and they will be collaborating to fix the damages.
However, residents of the four towns received a message saying services would be restored at 11.30 pm.
Tal-Barrani Road is an important connecting route for many localities in the south, including Fgura, Għaxaq, Tarxien, Żabbar, Żejtun and the Bulebel industrial estate. It also serves as an important link to Marsaxlokk and Birżebbuġa.
“Let’s remember that no one is perfect, and while I understand people’s frustration, let’s respect each other,” Transport Minister Chris Bonett said praising the workers who addressed the problem. “For our part, we will keep working to limit mistakes as much as possible.”
