Watch: Maltese Pensioner Breaks Down The Reality Of Inflation On The Streets
A frustrated Maltese pensioner who has started to feel the pinch of inflation has broken down the reality of the increase in prices.
Detailing his personal experiences with the rise in prices both in restaurants and when buying essential items such as fruits and vegetables, his rant taps into an ongoing national struggle.
His video, which was first uploaded to social media, has racked up over 68,000 views in a matter of days.
“I’m a pensioner, but imagine those people that have a family and are living off of the minimum wage, I feel for them,” Dave Mallia said.
“Prices are increasing every day – imagine having a family with children and having to pay electricity, water, and other utility bills from a minimum wage income – how are they going to manage to get by?”
“Before I used to spend as much as €85 on a dinner, including cocktails, a bottle of wine, and a piece of ribeye steak or sirloin… Yesterday the bill came to €125.”
In another part of the video, he detailed the increase in prices he’s been experiencing to cover expenses related to his dog’s food.
“We buy him the cans of meat – from €1.10 they have gone up to €1.27,” he said, also adding that the dry food has increased from €40 to €50.
Mallia has also set up a Facebook group called ‘Onfoq Bis-Sens’ over the last few days to help people with getting the cheapest prices in Malta.
It is worth noting that while Inflation has been on the rise across all of Europe, Malta has seen the lowest increase when compared to its European counterparts.
