Watch: Man Brutally Beaten As Aggressor Shouts Racial Slurs After St Paul’s Bay Traffic Accident
Horrific footage sent to Lovin Malta shows a motorcycle driver beating another man with a helmet before repeatedly shouting racial slurs at the victim in St Paul’s Bay earlier this week.
A witness described Monday night’s scene to Lovin Malta saying that what started as a small accident on Triq Efesu ended in “physical abuse and discrimination without any reason”, because the victim “did not even shout”.
“He was shocked.”
The video shows a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car with the door wide open as another man holds him down and repeatedly slams his head with a black helmet while swearing at him in Maltese.
The aggressor was then dragged away by another Maltese man and proceeded to threaten the victims life.
“Because I’ll kill you. Fu** your family,” he shouted to the man still sat in the car.
The motorcyclist then shouted a racial slur twice, calling him a “f***ing n*****” as a fourth man can be seen taking the helmet that the victim seemingly grabbed a hold of amid the vicious attack.
The witness did not see the preceding incident but emerged on a balcony after hearing commotion. She saw the men checking the damage resulting from the crash “which was nothing serious”. However, she described the aggressor as already frustrated while the car driver was telling him to calm down.
“He got more frustrated and started beating the black man with a helmet without stopping. Fortunately, it was another Maltese man who tried to stop him.”
The footage was taken at 10.13pm on Monday and the witness called the emergency number at 10.14pm however she hung up because she thought someone would have already reported it.
A few minutes later, she called again because no one had come and she explained the incident to the control room. The Qawra station then called the witness at 10.25pm however by then, the men had left. According to a spokesperson for the police, officers went to the site anyway, but no one was found in the mentioned street.
Later that night, the victim went to the Qawra station to report the assault. Police investigations in order to identify everyone involved are currently ongoing, as is a magisterial inquiry.
Lovin Malta asked whether this is being treated as a hate crime but that is remains unclear.
