Watch: Man Drives And Drinks On Sliema Rocks Next To Historic Watchtower
An unknown man was spotted driving and drinking next to his parked car on the Sliema rocks situated next to the historic San Ġiljan watchtower.
Filmed by a passerby walking along Tower Road, the man can be seen enjoying a drink next to his car, which is parked illegally, in an area that is often frequented by swimmers and sunbathers.
“I was there in the evening, and at one point saw a car driving on the side of the beach where people usually sunbathe and relax,” the person who sent in the video told Lovin Malta.
“I thought that cars cannot go in there. Apart from that, the driver came out of the car, put a bottle of vodka and a can of Red Bull on the roof, and started taking photos, like he was proud that he’s gonna get drunk or whatever, of course, while driving.”
“I totally don’t agree with drinking and driving, and also, the spot where he went in with his car was a really bad spot and easy to hit someone, especially if the person is drunk.”
Lovin Malta reached out to Sliema Mayor John Pillow, who confirmed that it’s not allowed to drive onto the rocky area.
“There is a sign saying that cars shouldn’t enter – it’s illegal to enter, but it’s often ignored. There are often wardens that go down and issue tickets. Sometimes people even remove the signs, but wardens often frequent the area,” Pillow told Lovin Malta.
The mayor now intends to place a police report, as the car’s numberplate was captured on video.
