Watch: Mark Camilleri Only ‘Exploded’ Against Labour After He Lost His Position, Jeremy Camilleri Claims On Latest Podcast
Mark Camilleri only started to really criticise the Labour Party after his contract with the National Book Council wasn’t renewed, political pundit Jeremy Camilleri has claimed on Jon Mallia’s podcast show Il-Podcast ta’ Jon.
Asked for his thoughts on people who left the PL and have become extremely critical of it, notably Desmond Zammit Marmara and Mark Camilleri, Jeremy hinted that they only disassociated themselves from the party once they didn’t stand to gain anything from it personally anymore.
“Mark really exploded against Labour when his contract wasn’t renewed as chairman of the National Book Council, that’s the reality. I think the decision to not renew his contract made him explode,” Jeremy said.
While Jon rebutted his claim, Jeremy reiterated that while Mark was critical of the PL beforehand, he only totally “exploded” after he lost his position in 2021.
“Mark was always critical, on a regular basis. But he totally exploded, waging a war against Labour, after he lost his position,” he continued.
“So much so that before he was removed from his position, without going into the merits of the decision itself, they had spoken to him, and he had said he’s going to refrain from commenting further.”
“So even vociferous people like Mark, didn’t speak out when they realised they were going to get hurt themeslves,” he said.
“Is it because he was threatened?” Jon inquired.
“No, it’s not because anyone threatened him, but when you occupy certain positions, you can’t just say whatever you please,” Jeremy responded.
Within the same segment of the podcast, Jeremy also called out Zammit Marmara, questioning why he hadn’t criticied the PL government’s decisions in previous years.
“You have people from a Labour background who are now criticising Labour for having a close relationship with big businesses – but this was already evident in 2014, 2015, 2016, and they didn’t talk back then – why didn’t they?” he questioned.
“Maybe they didn’t talk back then because they had a good relationship with Joseph Muscat,” he speculated.
