Watch: ‘Name And Shame’ – Sliema Mayor Calls Out Tower Road Residents For Incorrect Garbage Disposal

Sliema Mayor John Pillow recently shared a video on his social media highlighting the pressing garbage situation currently impacting the touristic Eastern areas of Malta.

“Name and shame,” Pillow said in the video after showing multiple bags on the street… even going as far as to rummage through some of the bags to try and identify the people who had left them there.

“People take out the black garbage a day after the grey bag is being collected and then throw out the garbage scheme in the same bag! When are we ever going to learn?”

Pillow’s locality, known for the many tourists who flock there for their stay in Malta, is far from the only one being impacted by the accumulation of garbage and rats due to citizens failing to abide by waste collection times.

And Pillow definitely isn’t the first one to highlight this issue. PN MP Eve Borg Bonello recently took to the streets to highlight the ongoing garbage issue present in various localities around Malta.

“Rats and rubbish, that is the reality we’re living with, the reality of several residents living in touristic areas: Sliema, St Julian’s, Swieqi, San Ġwann, Msida, Ta’ Xbiex, Gżira – the list goes on and on,” she said.

“It is unacceptable. I’ve been doing several house visits these last few weeks, and I’ve been witnessing first hand streets lined with garbage.”

This comes as various localities have started to witness rodents such as rats in their residential areas, as they feast on garbage left out for hours.
