Watch: Over 5,400 Irregular Immigrants Deported From Malta Since 2021

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri has confirmed that a total of 5,481 irregular immigrants were removed from Malta between 2021 and 31st August 2025.

Of these, 2,298 individuals were returned to their countries of origin. The annual figures show 448 deportations in 2021, 348 in 2022, 599 in 2023, 487 in 2024, and 416 during the first eight months of 2025.

Another 3,183 migrants were relocated to other EU member states. Transfers took place steadily over the years, with 122 in 2021, 618 in 2022, 778 in 2023, 937 in 2024, and 728 up to the end of August 2025.

Removals were carried out for various reasons, including failed asylum applications, cases of irregular residence, and voluntary repatriations. The individuals came from a wide range of countries such as Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Colombia, Albania, Egypt, Serbia, Mali, Gambia, Nigeria, Chad, and Senegal.
