Watch: Racist Graffiti On Bombi Underpass Cleaned By Third Country Nationals

Third Country National activists have stepped up to erase racist graffiti scrawled along the Bombi underpass.
On Monday morning, passerbys were met with disturbing slogans such as “Go back to your country”, “F** Muslims/Arabs”, “F** Indians, Nepal, Paki”, and even a swastika painted across the walls, as reported by MaltaToday.
Later that day, members of Malta’s TCN community, joined by an anonymous Maltese resident, gathered to scrub away the graffiti.
Among them was Manav Sanger, a well-known activist and the General Workers’ Union’s TCN Liaison Officer. Speaking after the cleanup, Sanger stressed that while blatant racism is not something most TCNs face every day, prejudice and abuse remain part of their reality.
He acknowledged that frustrations sometimes exist between locals and foreign workers but urged people to address problems through understanding and compassion rather than hate.
Sanger also highlighted how systemic exploitation often fuels tensions. He pointed to the practice of backdated terminations, when an employer falsely reports to authorities that a foreign worker left their job days earlier. Because the law gives TCNs just 10 days to find new employment, this manipulation instantly pushes them into illegality.
Caught in such situations, workers may spend months or even years fighting their cases before the Immigration Appeals Board, barred from working in the meantime. According to Sanger, this vulnerability leaves TCNs open to exploitation and creates unfair competition between foreign and local workers.
He called on Maltese, European, and TCN workers alike to join forces against abusive employment practices, insisting that solidarity, not division, is the way forward.
