Watch: Random Police Bus Checks In Malta Raise Concerns

An expatriate living in Malta has raised concerns about the way police are carrying out random document inspections on public transport.

The incident, which reportedly took place during peak commuting hours, was shared on the popular “Expats Malta” Facebook group.

In their post, the individual acknowledged the importance of tackling illegal immigration but argued that halting buses full of commuters may not be the most effective approach.

“Stopping a working bus during peak hours when everyone is rushing for work is definitely not the best way,” they wrote, suggesting that authorities should use a more systematic method.

The expat also voiced discomfort at the expectation of carrying identification at all times, likening the practice to living in a “war zone country.”

The post has since sparked debate among both expats and locals. While some defended the checks as a necessary measure for security and enforcement, others criticised them as disruptive and poorly timed.
