Watch: Robert Abela Inaugurates Malta’s First Secondary Hospital In Paola

Prime Minister Robert Abela has officially inaugurated the Ċensu Moran Regional Health Centre, Malta’s first secondary hospital, marking a €50 million investment in the country’s public health sector.
The new facility, located in Paola, is a major step forward in strengthening Malta’s healthcare system.
Comprising six medical and three technical floors, the centre has already been operational for several weeks, offering more than 50 outpatient services, including podiatry, physiotherapy, respiratory medicine and immunology to thousands of patients. The range of services is expected to expand to 150 in the near future.
Prime Minister Abela described the hospital as “more than a new building,” calling it “a declaration of our national vision- a country determined to provide everyone with access to modern, dignified and effective care.”
He noted that Malta enjoys one of the highest levels of public confidence in healthcare among European countries but emphasised the government’s continued commitment to investment in the sector.
“When we invest in health, we are investing in Malta’s future,” he said, highlighting the centre’s dedication to former Health Minister Ċensu Moran for his lasting contribution to national health services.
Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela thanked the Foundation for Medical Services and all contractors involved in delivering the project to the highest standards. He described the new centre as a “living project” that unites primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare.
“This regional centre is essential for Mater Dei Hospital to continue flourishing as an in-patients hospital,” he said. “I am confident this marks the beginning of a new and promising chapter for the benefit of our citizens.”
