Watch: Robert Abela Proudly Welcomes Malta’s First Female Gozitan President Myriam Spiteri Debono
Prime Minister Robert Abela has proudly welcomed Malta’s first female Gozitan president Myriam Spiteri Debono in a public address yesterday evening.
Abela is beaming as he expresses his happiness to welcome Spiteri Debono into her new role, specifically emphasising that she is the republic’s third female president and first Gozitan one.
This is the first time that a president in Malta was elected with the need of approval from the opposition party due to the constitution change back in 2020. And it was done so successfully.
Long-time Nationalist politician Francis Zammit Dimech was appointed as the acting president, meaning he will assume responsibility when she is unable to.
President of the European Parliament has also congratulated Spiteri Debono, stating that she along with Zammit Dimech, are “beacons of a political class that works with integrity”.
