Watch: He’s Off! Neil Agius Embarks On Epic 160-Kilometre Swim To Break His Own World Record
Neil Agius has just kicked off his epic, world record attempt swim of 160 kilometres around the entire Maltese Islands… and then some!
Agius left just a couple of minutes after 9am, with a crowd at Għadira cheering him on and shouting his name.
“Not sure how I managed to get in 10 hours of sleep,” Neil told his followers this morning on the way to the beach. “But I guess I’m going to need it. Next time I sleep it will be Tuesday.”
Neil will make his way southeast to swim around Malta. Tomorrow, he is expected to have arrived in Gozo, swimming around the sister island before coming back round to Malta. And he’d have another day of swimming left ahead of him.

As Neil Agius kicked off his epic 160-kilometre swim around the Maltese Islands, Lovin Malta was also there to capture the exact moment he walked onto the beach at Għadira Bay to a roaring applause, and the seconds just before he embarked on the world record attempt.
There was also a tender moment with his partner in crime (and life) Lara Vella, who wished him luck and gave him all the support in the world with a kiss and a “love you”.
