As the world of cosmetic procedures becomes more and more accessible and popular, especially among young women, the latest episode of The SHE Word Young Women’s Edition’s explored just that.

Hosted by Sasha Vella, the roundtable discussion featured popular influencer Sarah Alfalah, Love Island participant Jade Schembri, and make-up artist Jade Borg.

The guests all have one thing in common – they’ve all gotten some kind of cosmetic procedure in their 20s, whether it was botox, fillers, or even plastic surgery.

Discussing the reasons as to why women decide to make the decision to get work done, Alfalah, who discussed her recent breast augmentation on the show, explained how “most people do it out of feeling uncomfortable in their own bodies”.

“Being flat chested and having a huge bust, the kind of mental discomfort of it all, most people do it because they are uncomfortable with it, not feeling sexy in their own skin, or not feeling comfortable,” she said.

Jade chimed in to add that the constant images of perfection we see on social media definitely do not help this reality.

“When it comes to females, if it’s something that reduces the male gaze, like having a boob reduction surgery, that’s okay, but if you’re getting your boobs done which they know that guys automatically like big boobs, then you’re called fake, and told that boys don’t actually like it,” Alfalah continued.

The conversation ultimately aims to encourage women to question why they feel inclined to change their appearance, and to make sure that the decision is done for yourself, and not for others.

It also touched upon the importance of influencers who are open about the work they get done, especially for the younger crowd.
