We Are Not A Shop: This Maltese Website Donates 100% Of Proceeds To Local Charities
With the Christmas shopping season well upon us, it’s time to prepare yourself for a new and guilt-free online shopping experience, where 100% of the proceeds are donated directly to Maltese charities.
We Are Not A Shop is a recently launched online philanthropic website dedicated to gathering funds for chosen local charities.
The concept started out when Lady Stephanie Laing, together with a number of volunteers, organised a two-day fundraising sale of donated items in her garden to raise funds for the restoration of St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, a major feature and an iconic part of the Valletta skyline.
Apart from Stephanie, there’s also Vanessa Dowling, Ann Caruana Montaldo, Luke Micallef, Lisa Degiorgio, Jenny Fenton, and Caroline Vassallo, who have all been instrumental in the setting up of the concept.
Following a series of successful pop-up shops, the concept took off and eventually transitioned into the online site that exists today.
“Unlike other charity shops, every item available from our general stock is brand new, with the addition of the gorgeous and interesting vintage and antique pieces which feature in our Collector’s Corner,” Ann Caruana Montaldo told Lovin Malta.
“We guarantee that every single cent spent on purchasing these items are donations that go towards charitable causes. There are no commissions and no funds are used for operational costs.”
“Apart from our first chosen charity, Save The Valletta Skyline Appeal, which receives 60% of funds raised by the site, the second charity we currently support is St John Malta which receives 40% of the money raised to help them with their voluntary work within the community.”
“Our intention moving forward is to also support other smaller and perhaps lesser-known local charities that have a close and meaningful connection to helping the local community, culture, and heritage,” she assured.
The website is currently in the process of being transferred to The Working For Malta Foundation VO 2085.
