Triq il-Kbira, a major arterial road going into the town of Mosta, has been closed for almost a year and a half now, with residents and business owners lamenting the public works’ delay.

“This is the state we woke up to this morning after the rain of the night, an obvious element of nature that no one has control over…the first step outside the house is directly in the water!” she stressed.

“Dirt everywhere, dust that is never-ending and damages caused by winter flooding. I have all my downstairs furniture badly damaged and now to top it all off even cockroaches are getting inside!” she said.

“We are the ones who are seriously suffering from all this and the ones who should seek any type of damage compensation!” the woman told Lovin Malta.

In a parliamentary question, Infrastructure Minister Aaron Farrugia explained that the road suffered extensive damage to not being rebuilt for decades, detailing that Infrastructure Malta had to lay more than four kilometres of new underground systems.

However, he asked for clarification on specific damages in terms of potential compensation.

“At least work should commence and be quickly finished, workers are here and cannot start their day until it’s 8:30am!” the resident explained.

The woman also emphasised that all the residents are currently standing as one and that they have had enough with these works.

Lovin Malta had also spoken to other residents in the past weeks, who similarly said that their lives had been turned upside down with the delayed nature of these works.

“This is an offence to residents,” one family that lives on the street said.

In questions sent by Lovin Malta, Infrastructure Malta had said that the works should be finished by summer, though an exact date was not specified.
