‘We Haven’t Had Water In 30 Hours Now’: Baħar Iċ-Ċagħaq Residents Infuriated Over Prolonged Works

An infuriated Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq resident has not had access to water in the last 30 hours – and it seems he’s not the only one facing this issue.

With his home situated within Triq id-Dwieli, it seems that the water shortage is affecting almost all of Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, with Lovin Malta also being in contact with a resident on Triq il-Lampara.

“We are cooking and washing our teeth with bottled water, we cannot switch on Reverse Osmosis, the water heating system, washing machines, dishwasher, and so on, and we’re having to go swimming to wash,” the resident told Lovin Malta.

“We cannot use cistern water except for flushing toilets as it is full of soil and sand from the dust storms and other dirt from the roof,” he explained.

The water was apparently cut because of the bungling of a replacement of some piece of pipe within Triq is-Salini, with works being carried out by the Water Services Corporation.

Speaking with WSC, the man was told that the water supply was supposedly restored by yesterday at 6pm.

“It was supposed to have been restored yesterday evening, but we are still without water,” the man stressed.

“This morning WSC then said that the supply was already restored. Then they said it will be restored by 12pm… of the 98th of never,” the man said humorously.

Lovin Malta reached out to the Water Services Corporation for a comment on the matter.

“This might be related to some works that started yesterday morning and are still ongoing. See our FB post for more details. Bahar ic-Caghaq has been particularly affected,” a representative told the newsroom.

On the WSC’s Facebook page, the corporation can be seen apologising to residents for the inconveniences caused.

“Although in most areas, the water supply has been restored, areas in Baħar iċ-Cagħaq are still experiencing supply cuts. Our teams are on the ground and are addressing the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,” it said.
