World Down Syndrome day, celebrated on 21st March, is a global awareness day observed by the United Nations, since 2012.

”The motto of this year is ‘with us, not for us’, and this really means a lot for Franny… nothing can stop them from doing what they want to do,” Francesca Rausi‘s mother told Lovin Malta.

This year’s campaign is calling for people and organisations around the world to be ‘With Us And Not For Us’.

”Down Syndrome International is committed to moving on from the outdated charity model of disability, where people with disability were treated as objects of charity, deserving of pity and relying on others for support,” a representative of the global campaign explained on their website.

In Malta, a walk to raise awareness will be held at 10am, on Sunday – from Castille to the newly refurbished premises of the Down Syndrome Association Malta.

”The walk is an open invite, whoever wants to come is more than welcome to join and raise awareness,” Francesca’s mother said, ”today, the public is being encouraged to wear odd socks to show their support”.

Furthermore, a Gozo trip is being hosted on 25th March, with visits to David’s bakery, and lunch at Seashell’s Restaurant in Xlendi. More information can be found below.

Francesca and her mother are on a mission to raise awareness and real discussions about Down Syndrome awareness on the island.

The seven-year-old is a child model with over 24k followers on Instagram, as she inspires so many other young children with Down syndrome.

”She works a lot for raising awareness that nothing can stop them from doing what they want to do she is an international model and represents Malta in other countries,” the mother continued.
