Emma, competing in the -24 kg category, showed remarkable skill. Her silver medal win marked yet another significant milestone for Maltese taekwondo, especially in youth sports.

In addition to this, Malta’s young athletes also participated in the European Cadet Championship, showing great promise. While they secured victories, including an impressive win against Germany, they narrowly missed out on medals.

Both Dwayne and Emma, representing the Iron Taekwondo League, competed in the pre-cadet B class asper their age. Despite this, they displayed remarkable skill and determination, overcoming challenges for their wins.

Dwayne’s journey to gold started in the semi-final against Azeri contender Nadr Pashayev. With a convincing 2:0 victory, he advanced to the final. There, he faced Swiss player Ajan Krasniqi, who had triumphed over tough opponents. Dwayne’s performance secured him the gold.

Emma’s path to silver was equally impressive. In her semi-final against a Slovenian opponent, Emma showcased her skills, winning both rounds with a twelve-point lead.

Facing Ukraine’s Kateryna Korsak in the final, Emma fought fiercely. Despite Korsak’s early lead, Emma claimed victory in the second round. In an intense finale, Korsak managed to secure a last-minute win, making Emma Malta’s second European medalist, and bringing home a well-deserved silver.

These historic victories not only highlight the incredible talent of Dwayne Micallef and Emma Lautier but also signify a new era for Maltese taekwondo. Their achievements in the European Championship for kids serve as an inspiration for young athletes, showing that with dedication and determination, extraordinary feats can be achieved, even at a young age.

Well done to the young athletes!
